On 30 January 2016, HKSPA organised 3 Inter-School Scrabble competitions at HKMA K S Lo College, namely the Inter-School Scrabble Championship 2016 – Secondary (Novice), HKFT Cup Invitational Cross-level Scrabble Competition, and January Youth Scrabble Challenge.
Inter-School Scrabble Championship 2016 – Secondary (Novice)
10 local secondary schools new to the Scrabble field participated in the Secondary (Novice) Category of the Inter-School Scrabble Championship 2016. Each school can send 1 team in the competition. Each team consists of 2 players, and they will play against 2 other players on 1 board. The teams are paired by Swiss draw.

After 5 games, CUHKFAA Chan Chun Ha Secondary School got the Gold Cup Champion with 5 wins and a spread of +948. SMKMCF Ma Ko Pan Memorial College got the Gold Cup 1st Runner-up. Queen’s College, with Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team 2015 and 2016 member Wesley Choy Wing Chi joining the team in the afternoon, got the Gold Cup 2nd Runner-up.

It is worth mentioning that Tam Pok Hin from CUHKFAA Chan Chun Ha Secondary School got into the Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team 2016 by finishing 8th in the WYSC 2016 Hong Kong Qualifier on 20 and 27 February, about one month after this tournament. Pok Hin first played competitive Scrabble in 2014 in the Shatin Inter-School Scrabble competition organised by SKH Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School.

HKFT Cup Invitational Cross-level Scrabble Competition
The HKFT Cup Invitational Cross-level Scrabble Competition is organised as a gratitude to the schools which kindly sponsored us venues for our competitions this school year. The competition is kindly sponsored by the Hong Kong Football Times, an online media focusing on Hong Kong football. The competition is HKSPA-rated.
CCC Mong Man Wai College, HKMA K S Lo College, Methodist School and SKH Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School participated in the tournament. Methodist School is the only primary school among the 4 schools. Only primary and junior secondary students can paritipate in this tournament. The competition adopted a team-based double round-robin format. 3 players from the same school play with 3 players from another school in each round.
After 6 games, CCC Mong Man Wai College got the Champion with 5 school wins and a total spread of +1944, while SKH Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School got the 1st Runner-up. Heung Tsz Fung (4 wins and a spread of +529) from HKMA K S Lo College and Wong Tsz Yu Julian (5 wins and a spread of +570) from Methodist School got the Most Valuable Player award (for the best player of each non-awarded school).

January Youth Scrabble Challenge
The January Youth Scrabble Challenge is organised for all under 18 and secondary school players. The 6-game competition adopted Swiss Draw as the pairing mechanism. A total of 22 primary and secondary school students participated in the tournament.

After 6 games, Tsang Wai Yin Jason, member of the Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team 2015 and 2016, got the Champion with 5 wins and a spread of +1246. Po Chun Wo, who got into the Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team 2016 later, got the 1st Runner-up. Calvin Ma, also member of the Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team 2015 and 2016, got the 2nd Runner-up.

It is worth mentioning that 5 primary school students from Toi Shan Association Primary School, who played their first competitive Scrabble tournament only the week before in the Primary (Novice) Category of the Inter-School Scrabble Championship 2016, challenged themselves by competing with other experienced Scrabble players in this tournament. With this perseverance, the students can surely succeed in the Primary (Open) Category of the Inter-School Scrabble Championship 2016 on 9 April.
