WESPA Championship 2021 will be held from 20th November 2021 to 5th December 2021 (during weekends only) virtually on Woogles.io. Hong Kong is allocated one spot in the Championship and HKSPA is responsible for nominating one player to the event.

Divisions, pairings and schedules will be announced after the closure of application. For details please refer to WESPA official announcement.
The representative sent by HKSPA will not be entitled to win any prize money whatsoever, unless (s)he is physically located outside Hong Kong when participating in the Championship.
NEWS: Additional Spots
HKSPA was informed by the organiser that there are extra spots available at WESPAC 2021. Hong Kong is eligible to field two additional players.
Please refer to the "Qualifying Mechanism" below for the requirement. If you are eligible and are interested in representing Hong Kong in the tournament, please send us an email (info@hkscrabble.org) to indicate your preference. Only email reaching us on or before 15 November 2021 (Monday) at 12:00 noon will be considered.
If there are more than 2 players expressing their interest, the 2 players with the highest Peak Ratings during the period between 16 September 2019 to 15 September 2021 will be qualified.

There are 4 eligible players enrolled in the Qualifying Mechanism, namely Brian Po, Carson Ip, Euclid Hui and Thomson Law Long Yin.
A Qualifier will be held on 24 October 2021 (from 18:30 onwards, Hong Kong Time) for 7 games. The first six games will be in a double round-robin format while the last game will be on a KOTH basis. All the games will be played on a designated Woogles tournament room. The Qualifier is not HKSPA-rated. The format and monitoring protocol will follow the same arrangement of WESPA Championship 2021.

Qualifying Mechanism
Players who fulfill all the following criteria are eligible to represent Hong Kong in the Championship:
- Be an HKSPA member on or before 15 October 2021
- Have an HKSPA ranking (at least 50 rated games played)
- Have Hong Kong representation status under the Hong Kong Player Statuses Regulation
Eligible players should express their interest by enrolling via the HKSPA Tournament Registration System by 15 October 2021.
The Peak Ratings, including provisional ratings, between 16 September 2019 to 15 September 2021 will be considered (referred as "ratings" below).
After the enrollment deadline, if only one player expressed his/her interest, (s)he will be allocated the quota. If more than one player expressed interest, the players below the ratings of "Highest ratings applicant - 500" will be automatically eliminated (e.g. The ratings of the top-ranked player is 2000. All player below the ratings of 1500 will be automatically eliminated). For the remaining players:
- If there are two players, they will play a 7-game qualifier on a knockout basis (i.e. If either player wins 4 games or above, the player will qualify and there is no need to play the remaining games).
- If there are three players, the three player shall play against each other for 3 games (i.e. A vs B, A vs C and B vs C). The player with the highest total individual wins, and individual spread, will qualify.
- If there are four or more players, a 7-game qualifier will be arranged and it will mainly be on a round-robin basis. KOTH games will be added if requires. If the total number of players is an odd number, additionally, the player with the lowest ratings will be eliminated.
The Qualifier, if required, will take place in late October and details will be announced in due course. The preferred mode of the qualifier will be online, subject to the final decision of the Association. We will adopt CSW19 dictionary in this Qualifier.
There will be no entry fee for the qualification mechanism. However, the qualified player is required to pay the entry fee to the WESPA Championship 2021 at his/her own cost. Should the qualified player face financial difficulties, we may offer financial subsidy to the player concerned.
