Eligibility and Application

The competition is open to primary and secondary schools in Shatin.

There are two categories in the competition: Primary Category and Secondary Category. Primary 1 to 6 and Secondary 1 to 6 students of all schools in Shatin are eligible.

A team of 1-6 players (Primary Category) or 1-9 players (Secondary Category) from the same school is eligible to register as a school team, competing for school prizes (only for schools with 3 or more players) as well as individual titles.

Schools wishing to send an extra number of players could make a special request. The organising committee shall decide after considering the enrolment status.

The above rules of eligibility and application are subject to amendment without prior notice at the sole discretion of the organising committee.

Format of Play and Scoring System

Competitors will play individually in this competition. There are five games in total. All participants will play in the same pool.

Swiss Draw will be adopted for the first four games. Adjustments will be made to ensure that players will not face opponents from their own schools. KOTH (King-of-the-Hill) will be adopted for the final game, during which players from the same school can face each other. The tournament director has the power to do minimal changes in pairing to ensure fairness.

All players must compete in all 5 games.

Each player will be given a total of 25 minutes in the game.

Results will be collated for the top 3 finishers from each school for the school prizes. Schools with fewer than 3 players will not be counted. Only schools in Shatin are eligible for school prizes.

Rules and Dictionary

WESPA Rules Version 3 will be used with free challenge (i.e. no penalty for wrong challenges).

Collins Scrabble Words 2015 (CSW15) will be used as the official dictionary.

Two- and three-letter word lists will be provided during all games.
