Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team 2026 Qualification Arrangement
The World English-Language Scrabble Players Association ("WESPA") Youth Committee and Scrabble Kenya will organise the World Youth Scrabble Championship 2026 ("WYSC 2026") from 7 to 9 August in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Main Event will be held in the Trademark Hotel (Village Market, Limuru Rd, Nairobi). All players will participate in 24 games over a 3-day period. For more information, please visit the official website of the tournament:
Qualification Mechanism
The WYSC 2026 Main Event is only open to players born on or after 1 January 2009. To be eligible for representing Hong Kong in the WYSC 2026, players must also:
- meet the criteria in the Hong Kong Player Statuses Regulation
- be an active HKSPA individual member
Hong Kong has ten spots for quota players (subject to confirmation by WESPA Youth Committee). Quota players do not need to pay entry fees to the WYSC 2026.
Qualify by ratings
Players with peak HKSPA ratings of 1600 or above from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026 may qualify directly without needing to participate in a Qualifier. A maximum of 3 players may qualify via this route. If more than 3 players express interest in qualifying via this route, the spots will be given to the top 3 players with the highest peak ratings during the period.
Expression for interest
The Association would like to invite all eligible players to express their interest in representing Hong Kong in the WYSC 2026.
To express your interest, please send an email to info@hkscrabble.org on or before 14 March 2026, clearly stating your legal name, displayed name, date of birth and the school you are studying in. If we receive interest from more than ten players, we will arrange a Qualifier. You must express interest, even if you may qualify based on ratings. Information about the Qualifier will be released later, if there is going to be one.
Before expressing interest, players should note the following:
- All players must be accompanied by their parent (or any adult authorised by their parent);
- As Kenya is a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission, all travellers are strongly recommended to get vaccinated against yellow fever at least 10 days before travelling.
- All travellers travelling to Kenya are required to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travel. The ETA will cost US$30.
Players who have expressed interest include: (Last updated: 10 March 2026)
- WONG Tsz Sen (Qualified by ratings)
- Kingsly KANG (Qualified by ratings)
- GUO Chin Wang
Should you have any queries, please send an email to info@hkscrabble.org.
