Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team 2020 Qualification Arrangement

Introduction

The WESPA Youth Cup 2020 will take place online from 22 January to 7 February 2021 (during weekends only). Hong Kong is invited to this tournament and can send 6 players and 2 standby players to the tournament. Hong Kong Scrabble Players Association will manage the formation of the Hong Kong team.

Eligible players

  • Players must be born on or after 1 January 2003 to participate in WESPAYC.
  • To play for or play under the name of Hong Kong, players must meet the criteria in the Hong Kong Player Statuses Regulation.
  • Those who wish to participate in the qualifying process must be HKSPA Individual Members of session 2020 – 2021. Members of session 2019 - 2020 are eligible for renewing their membership for free.
  • Players must have played at least 50 HKSPA-rated games as at 31 December 2020, and played at least 1 HKSPA-rated game during 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2020

Players are required to reserve 22-24 January, 29-31 January, and 5-7 February 2021 to participate in the tournament.

Qualifying Rules

Players wishing to represent Hong Kong as a part of the “Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team” in WESPAYC can qualify by peak HKSPA Ratings only in this year.

The peak rating, excluding provisional ratings, from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2020 will be used to determine the priority to enter the Hong Kong team. Peak Ratings refer to the highest attained ratings during the period.

Registering for the Qualification Process

All players wishing to participate in the qualification process are required to register via HKSPA Event Application System by signing into their members account and click on the “Join” button on or before 9 13 January 2021.

For players who are not yet a member:

  • If you are a member of session 2019-20, please renew your membership and login to the system, then click on the “Join” button.
  • If you are not a member of session 2019-20, please click on “Enroll as a non-member” and complete the HKSPA Individual Membership application procedures to complete the enrollment procedure. Failing to complete the HKSPA Individual Membership application form on or before the deadline of enrollment will be treated as invalid application.

There will be no entry fee for the qualification process, nor the WESPA Youth Cup itself.
