East Asian Scrabble Championship - Hiroshima 2017 - Hong Kong Qualifier

Introduction: This tournament is to select 5 Hong Kong representatives for the first-ever East Asian Scrabble Championship to be held in Hiroshima, Japan from 1 to 2 April 2017. This tournament is HKSPA-rated.

Date: 17th December 2016 (Saturday)

Time: 10:00 – 18:00
Registration starts at 9:30

Venue: The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Eligibility: Players with Hong Kong representation statuses under the Hong Kong Player Statuses Regulation (http://hkscrabble.org/content/uploads/2016/05/Hong-Kong-Player-Statuses-Regulation.pdf)

Participants must join HKSPA Membership before the competition.

Format: Chew Pairing (Last Round KOTH), 7 rounds

25 minutes per player, 5 points unsubstantiated challenge penalty, WESPA rules version 3

Students must ask for school teacher’s permission to join this qualifier, as school absence approval is needed if you qualify

Dictionary: Collins Official Scrabble Words 2015 (CSW15)

Qualifying criteria: Top 5 finishers will represent Hong Kong in the East Asian Scrabble Championship 2017.

Entry fee: As this is a high-level qualifying tournament but not a competition for newbies to hone their skills (of course new players who think they have the ability can enter), entry fee will be collected to avoid a floodgate of applications.

HK$70 (Plus HK$50 for HKSPA Student Membership or Plus HK$120 for HKSPA General Membership if you are not yet a member)
