She won 10 out of 13 games with a cumulative spread of +783. This marked her first participation in the ASCI, following her previous participation in the WESPA Youth Cup 2023. Ella is currently studying in Renaissance College.</p><p><strong>Guo Chin Wang</strong> achieved 3rd runner-up in the U15 category. He won 9.5 out of 13 games with a cumulative spread of +1001. This marked his second participation in an international tournament, having previously participated in the WESPA Youth Cup 2023 as a member of the Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team 2023. He is currently studying in SKH Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School.</p><p><strong>Joseph Leung Chun Hei</strong> was awarded 6th place in the U15 category. He won 9 out of 13 games with a cumulative spread of +688. This was Joseph&#x2019;s second time participating in the ASCI, building on his previous experience where he placed 12th in the U15 category. He&#x2019;s also a member of the Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team in 2023, and is currently studying in Methodist College.</p><p><strong>Kobe Leong Wai Chun</strong> was awarded 5th place in the U18 category among 45 players. He won 10 out of 15 games with a cumulative spread of +852. This is his first participation in the ASCI and second time in an international Tournament, having previously taken part in the WESPA Youth Cup 2023. Kobe is currently studying in Methodist College.</p><p><strong>Euclid Hui</strong> achieved 8th place in the Open Category amongst 40 players. While he had participated in the ASCI before, this marked his first time finishing in the top 10. Euclid won 10 out of 17 games with a cumulative spread of +655. Samuel FOK Pak Hei and Raven WU Hoi Chun, both students from Wofoo Foundation Joseph Lee Primary School, won the Under 10 Players first runner-up and second-runner up respectively among 142 players from 17 countries and regions.</p><p>Ernest SO Yat Long, ex-Scrabble Team member of Methodist College, also won the Champion in the Warm-up Tournament. He has participated twice in the previous World Youth Championships of Scrabble in 2017 and 2018 as a member of Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team. Euclid HUI Yau Tang, 4-time Hong Kong Scrabble Champion, also won the 8<sup>th</sup> Place award in the Side Tournament of WESPA Youth Cup 2023.</p><p>Samuel FOK and Raven WU said, &#x201C;It&#x2019;s unbelievable to win some awards in our first-ever World Youth Championship experience. We will continue to improve our Scrabble skills. Hope we can join more international tournaments in the future and try our best to win awards.&#x201D;</p><p>This is Hong Kong&#x2019;s sixth participation in the World Youth Championship of Scrabble, the World English-Language Scrabble Players Association Youth Cup (&#x201C;WESPA Youth Cup&#x201D;). The WESPA Youth Cup, formerly called &#x201C;World Youth Scrabble Championship&#x201D;, was held in Trang, Thailand this year from 1 to 3 December. Only under-18 players can participate in the WESPA Youth Cup. As international travelling restrictions were lifted this year, the Youth Cup resumed its face-to-face format.</p><p>This year, we have again had a team of ten elite youth players to form the Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team 2023.</p><ul><li><strong>Adem NG</strong> will be participating in the WESPA Youth Cup for the first time. He was the Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Champion in 2022 and is currently studying at the HKMA David Li Kwok Po College.</li><li><strong>Joseph LEUNG</strong> is also participating in the WESPA Youth Cup for the first time. He has previously participated in the ASTAR Scrabble Challenge International 2023 and is currently a student at Methodist College.</li><li><strong>Ian TSOI Yin </strong>has participated in the WESPA Youth Cup from 2018 to 2022. He was the individual winner of the Association Cup 2023 (Senior Secondary Category) and is currently a student at Methodist College.</li><li><strong>Samuel FOK</strong> is a first-time participant in the WESPA Youth Cup. He was the individual winner of the Inter-school Scrabble Championship 2023 (Primary Category) and is currently studying at W F Joseph Lee Primary School.</li><li><strong>LOU Yuen Ching</strong> has been playing Scrabble since 2017 and has participated in the virtual WESPA Youth Cup 2022. She is currently a student at St. Paul&apos;s Co-educational College.</li><li><strong>GUO Chin Wang</strong> will be playing his first WESPA-rated tournament at the WESPA Youth Cup. He is currently a student at SKH Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School.</li><li><strong>Kingsly KANG</strong> was a member of the Hong Kong Team for the East Asian Scrabble Championship 2023. This trip will be his first opportunity to play in the WESPA Youth Cup. He is currently a student at Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School.</li><li><strong>TING Man Yui</strong> won the Joint-School Scrabble Tournament for Novices 2023. He has also participated in the ASTAR Scrabble Challenge International 2023 before and is currently studying at Methodist College.</li><li><strong>Felix LIU</strong> is also playing at his first WESPA-rated tournament in the upcoming WESPA Youth Cup. He is a student at CCC Mong Man Wai College.</li><li><strong>Alex CHAN</strong> was a Hong Kong representative in the virtual WESPA Youth Cup 2022 and has previously participated in the ASTAR Scrabble Challenge International 2023. He is a current student of Methodist College.</li></ul><p>In addition to the ten elite players mentioned above, fourteen Hong Kong players from five schools will participate as non-quota players in the WESPA Youth Cup 2023.</p><p>Eight experienced team leaders and past Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team members, FUNG Tsz Hin, Euclid HUI, TAM Pok Hin, Douglas TSANG, Thomson LAW Long Yin, Ernest SO Yat Long, WAI Hoi Ching and YIP Tsz Hin, will escort the Team to Trang this year as well. He was also the first runner-up in the Early Bird event by winning seven games out of a total of 9 games. </p><p>Brian was a Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team member in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and was the Hong Kong Scrabble Champion in 2019. While studying in the United Kingdom, he participated in various overseas Scrabble tournaments. He has participated in various international tournaments before, and has extensive local Scrabble tournament experience. He is currently the Vice President of the HKSPA Executive Committee.</p><p>Brian Po was the Hong Kong Scrabble Champion in 2019. He has played in the World Youth Scrabble Championship / WESPA Youth Cup from 2016 to 2019 and finished the event with great results. In 2022, he has finished second in the British Matchplay Scrabble Championship.</p><p>Thomson Law Long Yin is an elite local Scrabble player. Beginning his Scrabble career since primary school, he has played in the WESPA Youth Cup from 2017 to 2021. He has also played in the ASCI from 2017 to 2023, as well as the EASC in 2019 and 2023. He completed several tournaments with prominent results before.</p><p>Yip Tsz Hin (Owen) is the co-founder of the HKSPA. He is an experienced Tournament Director and has organised numerous Scrabble training classes and workshops for young players before. He has participated in some overseas Scrabble tournaments as well in the past.
