The UK Open, featuring around 100 players from all over the world, is an annual Scrabble event held in the United Kingdom. Brian Po. Euclid Hui, Thomson Law, and Wesley Choy are the four Hong Kong players competing in this 3-day tournament.

As no nominations were received for the Executive Committee members, the nomination period will be extended. The nomination period shall end at 00:30 on 22 September 2025, GMT+8. The Election Day shall be postponed to 28 September 2025 in accordance with the extension of the nomination period.

The Election Commission does not deem it necessary to release a new set of Nomination Guidelines with Nomination Form for this extra nomination period. Please use the Nomination Form in the Nomination Guidelines sent earlier for the Annual Election 2025-2026.

Ella Wong Sze Lang achieved the 2nd runner-up in the U15 category among 64 players. She won 10 out of 13 games with a cumulative spread of +783. This marked her first participation in the ASCI, following her previous participation in the WESPA Youth Cup 2023. Ella is currently studying in Renaissance College.

Guo Chin Wang achieved 3rd runner-up in the U15 category. He won 9.5 out of 13 games with a cumulative spread of +1001. This marked his second participation in an international tournament, having previously participated in the WESPA Youth Cup 2023 as a member of the Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team 2023. He is currently studying in SKH Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School.

Joseph Leung Chun Hei was awarded 6th place in the U15 category. He won 9 out of 13 games with a cumulative spread of +688. This was Joseph’s second time participating in the ASCI, building on his previous experience where he placed 12th in the U15 category. He’s also a member of the Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team in 2023, and is currently studying in Methodist College.

Kobe Leong Wai Chun was awarded 5th place in the U18 category among 45 players. He won 10 out of 15 games with a cumulative spread of +852. This is his first participation in the ASCI and second time in an international Tournament, having previously taken part in the WESPA Youth Cup 2023. Kobe is currently studying in Methodist College.

Euclid Hui achieved 8th place in the Open Category amongst 40 players. While he had participated in the ASCI before, this marked his first time finishing in the top 10. Euclid won 10 out of 17 games with a cumulative spread of +655. With his participation in various international tournaments, including the WESPA Championship 2023 in Las Vegas, Euclid has established himself as an experienced Scrabble player.

Apart from the prize winners, other Hong Kong players also completed this tournament with promising results.

Ernest SO Yat Long, ex-Scrabble Team member of Methodist College, also won the Champion in the Warm-up Tournament. He has participated twice in the previous World Youth Championships of Scrabble in 2017 and 2018 as a member of Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team. Euclid HUI Yau Tang, 4-time Hong Kong Scrabble Champion, also won the 8^th Place award in the Side Tournament of WESPA Youth Cup 2023.

Samuel FOK and Raven WU said, “It’s unbelievable to win some awards in our first-ever World Youth Championship experience. We will continue to improve our Scrabble skills. Hope we can join more international tournaments in the future and try our best to win awards.”

This is Hong Kong’s sixth participation in the World Youth Championship of Scrabble, the World English-Language Scrabble Players Association Youth Cup (“WESPA Youth Cup”). The WESPA Youth Cup, formerly called “World Youth Scrabble Championship”, was held in Trang, Thailand this year from 1 to 3 December. Only under-18 players can participate in the WESPA Youth Cup. The Hong Kong Scrabble Players Association sent 24 players to the competition this year.

香港Scrabble選手在Scrabble世青賽中取得佳績，在17個參賽國家或地區的142位選手中，兩位就讀和富慈善基金李宗德小學的學生霍柏曦及胡凱竣於本年世界青年Scrabble大賽（WESPA Youth Cup）在同齡選手中脫穎而出，奪得10歲以下個人亞軍及季軍，為港爭光。

此外，前循道中學Scrabble校隊成員蘇日朗先生在Scrabble世青賽熱身賽中以6戰全勝姿態奪得冠軍，蘇先生亦是2017及2018年兩屆香港青年Scrabble代表隊成員。而4屆香港Scrabble冠軍許友騰先生，在世青賽附賽中亦奪得第八名的獎項。

霍柏曦及胡凱駿表示，首次參賽便能在全球最大型的青年Scrabble比賽中獲獎是一件難以置信的事，日後會繼續努力改進Scrabble比賽技巧，參與更多國際Scrabble比賽，希望再得獲取佳績。

是次乃香港Scrabble代表隊第六次參加世界青年Scrabble大賽，本年的世青年賽在12月1至3日於泰國董里舉行，只有十八歲以下的Scrabble玩家才能參與。香港Scrabble總會（Hong Kong Scrabble Players Association）派出十五位中學生及九位小學生參與今屆賽事。

The Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team will play in the WESPA Youth Cup 2023 in Trang, Thailand!

The WESPA Youth Cup, formerly known as the World Youth Scrabble Championship, is the annual flagship youth event the WESPA Youth Committee organises. As international travelling restrictions were lifted this year, the Youth Cup resumed its face-to-face format.

This year, we have again had a team of ten elite youth players to form the Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team 2023.

• Adem NG will be participating in the WESPA Youth Cup for the first time. He was the Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Champion in 2022 and is currently studying at the HKMA David Li Kwok Po College.
• Joseph LEUNG is also participating in the WESPA Youth Cup for the first time. He has previously participated in the ASTAR Scrabble Challenge International 2023 and is currently a student at Methodist College.
• Ian TSOI Yin has participated in the WESPA Youth Cup from 2018 to 2022. He was the individual winner of the Association Cup 2023 (Senior Secondary Category) and is currently a student at Methodist College.
• Samuel FOK is a first-time participant in the WESPA Youth Cup. He was the individual winner of the Inter-school Scrabble Championship 2023 (Primary Category) and is currently studying at W F Joseph Lee Primary School.
• LOU Yuen Ching has been playing Scrabble since 2017 and has participated in the virtual WESPA Youth Cup 2022. She is currently a student at St. Paul's Co-educational College.
• GUO Chin Wang will be playing his first WESPA-rated tournament at the WESPA Youth Cup. He is currently a student at SKH Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School.
• Kingsly KANG was a member of the Hong Kong Team for the East Asian Scrabble Championship 2023. This trip will be his first opportunity to play in the WESPA Youth Cup. He is currently a student at Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School.
• TING Man Yui won the Joint-School Scrabble Tournament for Novices 2023. He has also participated in the ASTAR Scrabble Challenge International 2023 before and is currently studying at Methodist College.
• Felix LIU is also playing at his first WESPA-rated tournament in the upcoming WESPA Youth Cup. He is a student at CCC Mong Man Wai College.
• Alex CHAN was a Hong Kong representative in the virtual WESPA Youth Cup 2022 and has previously participated in the ASTAR Scrabble Challenge International 2023. He is a current student of Methodist College.

In addition to the ten elite players mentioned above, fourteen Hong Kong players from five schools will participate as non-quota players in the WESPA Youth Cup 2023.

Eight experienced team leaders and past Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team members, FUNG Tsz Hin, Euclid HUI, TAM Pok Hin, Douglas TSANG, Thomson LAW Long Yin, Ernest SO Yat Long, WAI Hoi Ching and YIP Tsz Hin, will escort the Team to Trang this year as well. They will also participate in the Warm-up and/or the Side Tournament of the WESPA Youth Cup.

The MISO is a WESPA-rated international tournament featuring a pool of Scrabble players from all over the world. Brian Po won the MISO Late Bird Event by winning 14 games out of a total of 16 games. He was also the first runner-up in the Early Bird event by winning seven games out of a total of 9 games.

Brian was a Hong Kong Youth Scrabble Team member in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and was the Hong Kong Scrabble Champion in 2019. While studying in the United Kingdom, he participated in various overseas Scrabble tournaments. He was the first runner-up in the British Matchplay Scrabble Championship (BMSC) in 2022 and 2023.

I am writing to inform you that the nomination period of the Annual Election 2023 of the Hong Kong Scrabble Players Association will be opened. The Nomination Period shall start at 00:30 on 25 July 2023, GMT+8 and end at 00:30 on 2 August 2023, GMT+8. The purpose of the Annual Election 2023 is to elect the Executive Committee members (except the Student Representative) for Session 2023-2024.

Euclid Hui is a four-time Hong Kong Scrabble Champion, winning the event in 2018 and 2021-2023. He has participated in various international tournaments before, and has extensive local Scrabble tournament experience. He is currently the Vice President of the HKSPA Executive Committee.

Brian Po was the Hong Kong Scrabble Champion in 2019. He has played in the World Youth Scrabble Championship / WESPA Youth Cup from 2016 to 2019 and finished the event with great results. In 2022, he has finished second in the British Matchplay Scrabble Championship.

Thomson Law Long Yin is an elite local Scrabble player. Beginning his Scrabble career since primary school, he has played in the WESPA Youth Cup from 2017 to 2021. He has also played in the ASCI from 2017 to 2023, as well as the EASC in 2019 and 2023. He completed several tournaments with prominent results before.

Yip Tsz Hin (Owen) is the co-founder of the HKSPA. He is an experienced Tournament Director and has organised numerous Scrabble training classes and workshops for young players before. He has participated in some overseas Scrabble tournaments as well in the past. He is currently a member of the HKSPA Advisory Board.
