Association Cup Inter-School Scrabble Tournament 2019

HKSPA is partnering with HKMA K S Lo College in organising the Association Cup Inter-School Scrabble Tournament 2019 for all primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong!

The Association Cup aims at providing students with opportunity to play Scrabble competitively during their post-exam activities period. The Tournament is open to all primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong free of charge. Application to the tournament must be submitted on a school basis.

This year, we are co-organising this Tournament with HKMA K S Lo College and hence the Tournament will take place in their School Hall located in Tin Shui Wai. The venue is easily accessible by Light Rail and buses serving around the district. Plenty of meals options are available in the shopping malls nearby.

This Tournament will be the second HKSPA-rated tournament adopting the Collins Scrabble Words 2019 dictionary. For more details of the tournament, please read the entry handout below. Act now and submit an application to join the tournament now!

Organisers: Hong Kong Scrabble Players Association and HKMA K S Lo College

Date: 6 July 2019 (Sat)

Time: 09:30 – 17:30, Registration starts at 09:00

Venue: The Hong Kong Management Association K S Lo College, 26 Tin Pak Road, Tin Shui Wai

An hour lunch break will be arranged. The finishing time of the tournament may vary subject to the actual tournament schedule.

Eligibility:

  • Primary Category: Primary 3-6 students
  • Junior Secondary Category: Secondary 1-3 students
  • Senior Secondary Category: Secondary 4-6 students

A secondary school can send at most one junior form member to join the Senior Secondary Category only if they have fewer than 3 senior secondary students joining the senior team. Students from primary schools are not allowed to join any Secondary categories.

Quota (per category):

School may send additional players, who must be HKSPA Individual Members, to the tournament, but a school may not send more than 8 players in total for each category. All players for the same category from the same school must be enrolled via the same application form.

There will also be a quota on the total number of applicants. Application will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis.

To compete for school prizes in a category, a school must have at least 3 players competing all games in the category on that day. When calculating school ranking and awards, only the top 3 players from each school will be counted.

Dictionary: ​Collins Official Scrabble Words 2019 (CSW19)
Please note that CSW19 will be used instead of CSW15. Collins Official Scrabble Words 2019 has been published on 2 May 2019. Please refer to CSW19 Initiation Kit for changes on the word list.

Rounds: 5 games
Round 1: Random Draw
Round 2 to 4: Australian Swiss Draw
Round 5: KOTH

Players from the same school will not play against each other in the first 4 rounds.

School Prizes

  • Top 3 schools – Trophies
  • Best Player from a School – medals

To compete for school prizes, a school must have at least three players participating in all rounds in the tournament. When calculating school ranking and awards, only the top 3 players from each school will be counted.

Individual Titles

  • Top 5 Individual finishers – medals
  • High Word – medal
  • High Game – medal
  • Bingo Machine – medal
  • Best New Player - medal

“Bingo Machine” award will go to the player who played the most bingo words during the whole Championship. In case of a tie, the cumulative scores of the moves that the Bingo words, excluding points gain from challenge (if applicable), will be taken into consideration. “Best New Player” award will go to the best player who has not played in any HKSPA-rated tournaments before. The award will only be set up if there are at least 2 players eligible for the award. For Senior Secondary Category, junior form players (if any) are not eligible for the “Best New Player” award.

Enrollment

Please fill in the online application form via HKSPA Tournament Application System on or before 29 June 2019. Application is accepted on a school-basis only. Please submit the name of all players for the same category in one single application.

Players must bring their student identity document to the venue for verification.

Change of players:

  • Changing players before the 29 June 2019: Teachers and coaches may change their team formation on the HKSPA Tournament Enrolment System by themselves. Please note down the reference code after submitting the application, visit this page and type your reference code. Please follow the on-screen instruction on changing players.
  • Changing players on or after 30 June 2019: Applications will normally not be accepted.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you expect any player cannot attend the tournament for any reasons to facilitate our arrangement.
